Background on Kayali Perfumes

Kayali is a luxury fragrance brand that was founded by sisters Huda and Mona Kattan in 2018. Huda Kattan, a well-known beauty influencer and entrepreneur, alongside her sister Mona, sought to create a line of perfumes that would celebrate individuality and personal expression.

The name “Kayali” is derived from an Arabic word meaning “my imagination,” reflecting the brand’s vision of creating unique and evocative scents that transport individuals to different realms. The Kattan sisters drew inspiration from their Middle Eastern heritage and their own personal journeys, infusing their perfumes with a blend of Eastern and Western influences.

One distinctive aspect of Kayali perfumes is their numbering system. Each fragrance is assigned a number that represents its unique character and identity. For example, “Elixir | 11” and “Vanilla | 28” are named after their respective numbers. Kayali also promotes the concept of fragrance layering, where multiple scents from their collection can be worn together to create a personalized and unique fragrance experience.

Most Popular Kayali Perfumes

Here is a list of the most popular Kayali perfumes:

  1. Yum Pistachio Gelato 33
  2. Vanilla | 28
  3. Eden Juicy Apple | 01
  4. Lovefest Burning Cherry | 48

Kayali doesn’t share which scents are the best seller, but these are our best guesses based on reviews on Sephora.

Most recently, Kayali released a “His & Hers” wedding perfume set. We love the concept, but here’s a list of clean “His and Hers Wedding DayPerfumes“.

Do Kayali Perfumes have Parabens?

Kayali is not transparent about what ingredient are in their perfumes.

Without a statement from a brand stating that their products are paraben-free, you have to assume they are not paraben-free.

This is the case with Kayali – we have to assume all Kayali perfumes do contain parabens.

Do Kayali Perfumes have Phthalates?

Yes, we have to assume Kayali perfumes contain phthalates (since they are not transparent about the ingredients they use).

Do Kayali Perfumes have PFAS?

Yes, we have to assume Kayali perfumes contain PFAS, since they have not made any claims otherwise.

Change on the Horizon?

We don’t anticipate Kayali making any improvements to the their perfumes and removing parabens/phthalates/etc.

The HUDA Beauty website (which is the beauty brand founded by Huda & where you can buy Kayali perfumes directly), actually has a couple articles about parabens. Notably, “There’s essentially no conclusive evidence to show that the parabens used in beauty products are bad for your health“.

So what can you do? Consumers hold real power to incite change in brands. Your voice and dollar is powerful.

  1. Refrain from buying Kayali perfumes. There are tons of other great perfumes on the market that don’t use concerning ingredients.
  2. Reach out to Kayali and/or sister-company, HUDA. Write to them. Tweet them. Tell Kayali you want perfumes with transparent ingredients. Tell Kayali you want perfumes without phthalates/parabens/PFAS, etc.

Bottom-Line: We don't recommend Kayali perfumes

We don’t recommend Kayali perfumes. Kayali is not transparent about what ingredients they use in their perfumes. Kayali does not meet the “Clean at Sephora” standards, which prohibits such ingredients. Therefore, we have to assume Kayali perfumes contain  parabens, phthalates and PFAS. These ingredients have concerning health implications (more on that here).

There are tons of perfumes on the market that don’t contain concerning ingredients – and these are the perfumes we use and recommend.

As consumers are becoming aware of the concerning ingredients in perfumes, many consumers are actively searching out better, safer perfumes. This is more than a passing trend. This is where the perfume industry is headed. Here at scentmovement, we’re here to promote this movement – browse around our site if you’re looking for perfume recommendations, reviews or dupes!
